I always remember when the first time I heard the Eric Whitacre's "Sleep".
It was at the night concert of Vox Amabilis, one of the known vocal ensemble group in Indonesia. Although it was a medium-little concert taken place in a chapel in Bandung, but it was really fascinating and impressing to me.
And "Sleep" became one of my favorite choral song. Ya, maybe if you look at the lyrics of the song, it isn't interesting at all. Just telling story about people going to sleep (however, it's still a nice poems).
But, I don't listen to song from its lyrics. I listen to it from the music, i mean the tone, the dynamics, the harmony, the effects; I feel it . And, Sleep is such a wonderful piece of choral works. Thanks Eric :)
After that concert, I searched that song in Youtube, downloaded and played it from my computer. Sometimes I dropped my tears as it somehow touched my deepest heart (once again, I ignored the lyrics and listen only to the music); I was still in depression at that time indeed (you might already know the reason). Ahh, listening to choral song seemingly always make my feelings be relieved...
Finally, it's still one of my favorite song...
